WHAT HAVE BEEN ACCOMPLISHED:
JMEC has been structural engineer to design a retaining wall system to stabilize the roadway along the Ygnacio Valley Road. A section of of this roadway has cracked due to a continuous movement of adjacent slide.
Wall types considered including secant wall with and without tie-backs, and soldier pile concrete lagging wall with tie-backs. The earth at the toe of the slide was partially excavated to reduce overburden as recommended by the geotechnical engineer.
The maximum wall height is more than 11-ft and the length of tie-back is more than 30-ft. During construction, JMEC performed field verification and structural observation to ensure that the prestressing and grouting operation of the tie-backs were conforming to project requirements, including proof load and lock-in forces.
